  • USDA Update –Rod Johnson: Area farmers and ranchers are invited to a free workshop for The Hammer Ranch in Wild Horse. Different organizations representatives will talk about wildlife, habitat, partnership opportunities and different incentive programs available.
  • About 124 people who had attended schools in the east end of the county, had a reunion at Towner Community Hall. Classes who year ended in 4 or 5 were especially honored. Faye Barber was the oldest Alumnus as well as oldest person attending.

  • The Eads Board of Trustees heard from a number of concerned citizens about reckless driving and other activities taking place on Maine Street.
  • FSA Update: Guess What! We have a new name “Consolidated” has been dropped from our title! We are now known Farm Service Agency (FSA). Hopefully we can now quit playing semantics and get on with our mission of assisting agriculture producers.

August 6, 1980

  • Lamar has been selected as the site for a large bus assembly plant. Neoplan Bus Company of Stuttgart West Germany was made public at a news conference held by Governor Richard Lamm.
  • Eads little league team took third place honors in the Hi-Plains League Little League championship tournament.

August 7, 1970

  • Haswell: Frankie and Jimmy Rich fished at Sweetwater Saturday and were very successful.
  • Rodney Alt, District Conservationist at Springfield; Lee Hill, District Conservationist Eads; and Wayne Glover, Conservationist Technician Eads have received award for high quality work performance the fiscal year just ended.

August 3, 1945

  • John Gardner, foreman of the Eads Livestock Ranches, entertained the kids of Eads with a big rodeo at the ranch north of town. The rewards were many and sufficient. Mr. Gardner treated all to pop and watermelon.

100 Years Ago

August 6, 1920

  • About 15 or 20 representative businessmen of Haswell and the surrounding territory were in Eads petitioning the County Commissioners to establish a north/south road through Haswell.
  •  The approaches to the Chivington bridge were washed out by the big rain this week. Rush Creek has been full, and tourists have been tied up waiting for the water to go down.

The people of Eads went joy riding when two planes from the Central Continental School of Flying of Pueblo gave exhibition here.
