
Pursuit ends in head-on crash near Walsenburg, 7 injured
Tuesday afternoon, the Colorado State Patrol responded to an injury crash on Interstate 25 near Walsenburg. The crash occurred during an active pursuit by the Walsenburg Police Department involving a black 2008 Nissan Altima.
Prior to the crash, a Colorado State Patrol Trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle for speeding. When the vehcile failed to yield, and the trooper did not attempt a pursuit.
Walsenburg Police later pursued with the same vehicle, which resulted in a crash. The Nissan Altima crossed the median on I-25 and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Dodge Durango.
As a result of this crash, a Walsenburg Police Officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The two occupants of the Nissan Altima were transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries, and the four occupants of the Dodge Durango were transported to a local area hospital for minor to moderate injuries.
This crash is currently under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit.
