Rain chances build through weekend for Cheyenne County
Cheyenne Wells and Cheyenne County can expect pleasant weather Wednesday before a progression of rain chances builds through the end of the week, with the best storm chances arriving Saturday, according to the National Weather Service’s Goodland forecast office.
Wednesday will be sunny and warm with highs near 76 and northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph. Temperatures will cool to 36 overnight under partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of early evening showers. Thursday will bring similar warmth at 78 degrees, though a chance of rain showers is expected to develop after noon as a frontal boundary approaches.
Meteorologists at the Goodland forecast office noted that a series of upper-level disturbances will keep precipitation chances in the forecast through most of the week, with the highest chances toward the weekend. Thursday night carries a 70 percent chance of rain showers as the front pushes through.
Friday brings cooler temperatures, steady rain chances
A sharp cooldown is on tap for Friday, when highs will reach only 58 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Rain showers are likely, mainly before noon, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation. Easterly winds around 15 mph will add a damp feel to the day.
Friday night will remain mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of rain showers and lows near 44.

Saturday storms could be strong
Saturday brings the most active weather of the period, with showers and thunderstorms likely and a 60 percent chance of precipitation. Highs will rebound to 74, but south winds of 15 to 30 mph will make for blustery conditions. The Goodland office indicated that Saturday is the day most favorable for both severe weather and significant rainfall across the region.
Conditions will improve Saturday night as rain chances diminish to 40 percent before midnight, with lows settling near 46.
Extended outlook
Sunday will bring a welcome break with mostly sunny skies and highs near 78, though a chance of afternoon showers lingers. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will keep things breezy. Looking further ahead, a more substantial cooldown is expected early next week, with highs potentially dipping into the upper 50s by Tuesday.
