Overnight showers will give way to clearing skies Monday in Eads, with the National Weather Service forecasting a dry and mild stretch through Wednesday for Kiowa County.

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4 a.m. Monday, are forecast to bring a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain, with higher amounts possible under any thunderstorm. Monday will start mostly cloudy before gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 64. South winds of 5 to 15 mph are expected to turn to the north in the afternoon.

Monday night will turn cloudier, with a low around 37. Tuesday should be cloudy through mid-morning, then clear, with a high near 66. Wednesday looks like the pick of the week, sunny with a high near 70.

Drying trend takes hold this week

Stephen Hodanish, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wrote in Sunday's Area Forecast Discussion that the rain should wind down quickly and that "Tuesday through Thursday will be dry." He noted that Monday should be mostly sunny across the plains, with highs in the mid-60s.

No Red Flag Warnings, flood watches or other hazards are listed for Eads in the Pueblo forecast office's latest products. Low temperatures through midweek are expected to stay above freezing, in the upper 30s.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday morning may begin with low clouds that clear by late morning, leaving a partly to mostly clear sky and a high near 66. Skies should be mostly clear Tuesday night, with a low near 36, the coolest reading of the week.

Wednesday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 70 and light west winds of 5 to 10 mph that shift to the southeast in the afternoon. Wednesday night should stay mostly clear, with a low around 37.

Extended outlook: Thursday and Friday

Thursday should be mostly sunny with a high near 67, followed by a mostly cloudy night with a low around 41. Friday brings a 20 percent chance of showers after noon, with a high near 68.

The Pueblo discussion notes that Friday's shower chances are focused on the San Juan Mountains and possibly the far southeast plains, and that another, colder weather system could move across the western United States over the weekend. Forecasters said the track and strength of that system remain uncertain.

Early-morning drivers should watch for wet roads and reduced visibility from lingering showers before sunrise Monday.
