Sunny and hot through the week in Kiowa County with highs in the mid 90s
Eads and the rest of Kiowa County face a stretch of dry, sunny and increasingly hot weather through the end of the work week, with afternoon highs climbing from the low 90s Wednesday to the mid 90s by Friday, the National Weather Service in Pueblo says.
Wednesday brings sunny skies and a high near 93 near Eads. West wind of 5 to 15 mph will shift to the north-northwest during the morning. Skies stay mostly clear Wednesday night with a low around 62 and a south-southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the evening.
"For Wednesday and Thursday, it will likely be dry over the region. Any storms, if they form, will be isolated at best," forecaster Stephen Hodanish wrote in Tuesday's Area Forecast Discussion. "Temperatures will warm up a bit as compared to today, with generally mid 90s over the plains."
Monsoon moisture returns for the weekend
The dry spell is expected to break down heading into the weekend. Forecasters say monsoon flow will redevelop starting Friday and remain in place through early next week, bringing scattered to numerous storms to the mountains and isolated to scattered storms across the plains. Some of that rain could be heavy, as guidance suggests mid- to upper-level tropical cyclone moisture may be drawn into the region.
No watches, warnings or advisories were in effect for the Pueblo forecast area as of Tuesday afternoon, and no Red Flag Warning covered Kiowa County. Even so, with highs in the mid 90s, low afternoon humidity and breezy south winds Friday, fire conditions across the county remain a concern. Moderate to exceptional drought continues across south-central and southeastern Colorado.
