Eads and the rest of Kiowa County are looking at a sunny, mild Saturday with highs back into the low 80s, followed by a noticeably cooler Sunday and a warming trend that lifts highs back into the mid-80s by midweek under continued dry skies.

Saturday brings full sunshine, a high near 82, and south-southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph turning to the north-northwest by afternoon as a backdoor cold front slides through the eastern plains. Skies are mostly cloudy and breezy overnight, with north-northeast winds of 15 to 20 mph and a low near 41.

Eric Petersen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Pueblo, noted in this week's Area Forecast Discussion that the upper-level pattern over southeast Colorado continues to favor dry, mostly sunny days, with brief reinforcing cool shots between extended stretches of above-normal temperatures and no measurable precipitation expected through midweek.

Sunday cooldown

Sunday is the coolest day of the period in Eads, with mostly sunny skies, a high near 68, and north winds of 5 to 15 mph easing and turning easterly by afternoon. The night is clear, with a low near 39 and a light southerly breeze returning before sunrise.

Lows near 40 across western Kiowa County will keep early-morning conditions cool through the weekend; growers and gardeners working in the morning hours should plan accordingly.

Extended outlook: midweek warmup, breezy Wednesday

Monday rebounds quickly. Eads can expect full sunshine, a high near 86, and south-southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph, with overnight lows near 47.

Tuesday holds the warmth — sunny skies and a high near 84 — but breezy northeast winds of 15 to 20 mph will move into the area through the afternoon. Wednesday is sunny again with a high near 87 and a southeast wind that increases to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon, with gusts that could reach 30 mph.

Fire weather

No Red Flag Warnings are in effect for Kiowa County or the surrounding southeast Colorado plains as of Saturday morning, and the Pueblo office is not advertising fire weather highlights for the upcoming period. Even so, fuels remain dry across the eastern plains, and breezier afternoons Tuesday and Wednesday — combined with humidity values that will dip well below 25 percent — mean residents should still use caution with any outdoor burning, sparks from equipment, or improperly extinguished cigarettes.
