A suspect is being held without bond following a multi-agency search warrant investigation in Cheyenne Wells that turned up explosive devices, firearms and suspected narcotics, the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office announced.

The case began with a search warrant executed June 5 at a home in Cheyenne Wells. The operation drew an unusually broad mix of agencies to the small Eastern Plains community. Deputies were joined by the Kit Carson County SWAT Team, the Lincoln County SWAT Team, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and a United States Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

During the operation, law enforcement personnel located several explosive devices at the home. Specialized teams safely rendered the devices inert and destroyed all explosive materials. The Sheriff's Office said there was no known threat to the public and that the community remained safe.

Investigators also seized firearms, several pounds of suspected marijuana and various other suspected illegal narcotics, collecting the items as evidence.

On June 10, the Sheriff's Office announced that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the investigation and was being held without bond. The office did not release the suspect's name.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the charges include:

  • CRS 18-12-109(4) — Possession, Use, or Removal of Explosives or Incendiary Devices in Commission of a Felony (class 2 felony)
  • CRS 18-18-406(2)(b)(I),(III)(B) — Offense Related to Marijuana Distribution (level 2 drug felony)
