This will be the last USDA Update for the 2023 calendar year.  The USDA employees wish all our producers a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

COC ELECTION

The Kiowa County Committee ballot count was held December 12 at the Service Center.  Local Administrative Area or LAA – 1 election was held this year, which is described as the Colorado/Kansas state line west to County Road 55.  Jay Specht was elected to serve a three-year term which will begin January 1, 2024.

Sean Harkness has represented LAA-1 area for the past 9 years and is term limited.  We thank Sean for his years of service as he will be missed.

2023 LIVESTOCK FORAGE PROGRAM

January 30, 2024, is the final day to apply for the 2023 Livestock Forage Program or LFP.  Kiowa County triggered for LFP in April 2023 due to the drought conditions that were present at the beginning of the 2023 growing season.  Therefore, the opportunity to apply has been available for the past 8 months.  If you have grazing livestock and control and risk in grazing land, you could be eligible for the LFP program.  Contract the FSA Office for more information.
