“A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.” Proverbs 15: 1

Maine Street Bash is coming Saturday, July 27, and this one looks to be the best yet! The CLCEC, Crow–Luther Cultural Events Center Board, plans for the day to run from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. This whole extravaganza will be free to come and go to the many food vendors and booths of vendors. What is really neat is that the Kidz Zone will be full of fun games and activities for kids who buy a bracelet. They can also get a free hair cut coordinated by ladies of the WE group. The First Christian Church will have a booth of games and activities also. Kim Richards has advertised the popular Corn Hole tournaments, with separate tourneys for teens and adults, as well as a poker run game which we have never had before. That is a sort of scavenger hunt game on foot. The Disney-PIXAR Toy Story 4 movie will be shown all day and night at discounted prices for adults and teens. Now that will be a cool place to be and it is right by the Maine Scoop ice cream store! Besides all those fine bands and vocalists, there will be KVAY interviews and music in the morning. All those vendor booths and flea market tables will surely bring a lot of pleasure to the shoppers and marketers too. Terry Riley stated that there will be fireworks about 9:30 p.m. between breaks of the bands. So, readers, why not circle your social calendar for hours of fun at the Maine Street Bash?

The harvest trucks are rolling into Haswell, Eads, and Towner! When Gail Voss drove me to Pueblo Tuesday, we were thrilled to see the trucks of wheat in a long line along the side road waiting to unload at the elevator. The Lord has blessed us with good weather this year, so the harvest appears to be more abundant.

As we drove west, we saw many big machines at various places along the railroad that were doing some kind of work, and maybe testing all the way to the Crowley-Kiowa county line.

The Eads pool is open and swimming lessons have begun to be taught by Hays State University student, Brittany Newman. She also puts in hours of job-shadowing our physical therapists at Weisbrod, Dr. Dennis Bartha and Joe Zinger.

The Dusty Plains Car, Pick-up, and Bike Show will be during Saturday of the Kiowa County Fair and the parade September 14. If drivers want to be a part of this annual event, please call Bonnie Morgan. If she doesn’t answer, do call her back since she is afflicted again with cancer and she may be out taking treatments.

Some photos of the Barnett-Buck wedding showed that it was an elegant affair arranged by the wedding planner, Chelsea Davis, and assistant, Whitney Barnett. Photographer Chelsea (Glover) Higgins came all that way from Iowa to do the photo shoots. Chel-C is a real pro because of her innate artistic abilities. The outdoor settings and indoor settings looked so beautiful, especially the one of Pastors Lane and Debbie Gooden during the ceremony.

4-H members, parents, and leaders will be busy these next 20 days before August 5 when they will have interview judging in home economics, science-related, and other home environment projects at the County Achievement Day. At 6:00 p.m,. people are invited to attend the fashion show and the food auction.

Monday of this week, Mrs. Dawn James was scheduled to shepherd some Eads High School Future Farmers of America members and their new instructor, Ms Tia Konig, to Washington D.C. to the FFA conference and sightseeing in the capitol city.

Remember that the Kit Carson Gar-Yard Sale is Saturday, July 20. The Chamber of Commerce makes a map so that people can pick up a map at the grocery store or Singing Grass Antique Store to see where to drive or walk to yard sales.

We welcome Sandie Paitin from the Wiley area as our new Postmaster in Eads. She is a nice lady that I knew a number of years ago when she was a caretaker at Weisbrod and when she lived in Kit Carson.

Those who attended church at Weisbrod last Sunday had such a good time singing to Cheryl Wyatt’s piano music and visiting with the pastors, Lane and Debbie Gooden, and Lil Penn, who had the pleasure of having three of her daughters, Deborah, Linda, and Lisa worship with her.

Thank you, to the newly organized riding club for having more educational and competitive events at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds the past two summers. Mrs. Dawn Back is a leader of the group if readers would like more information or want to participate.

Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Richardson of Alamosa have been in Eads visiting his parents, Neil and Connie Richardson. When we saw their young son, Luke, riding on the bench of his great grandmother, Shirley Watts’, walker, Betty Crow said, “Oh, I can tell who his daddy is.”

The local book club read the book, “Ghost Rider” this month and, last Saturday at the meeting, watched the 1963 movie, “Miracle of the White Stallions” produced by Disney.
