Cheyenne County heats into the mid 90s with storm chances returning Friday
Cheyenne Wells begins September with three days of sunshine and rising temperatures, topping out near 96 on Friday before scattered storm chances arrive for the holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service office in Goodland, Kan.
Wednesday is sunny with a high near 93. Southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph shifts to the northwest during the morning. Wednesday night stays mostly clear with a low around 64 and a south wind of 5 to 10 mph.
"Highs in the 90s and low 100s are forecast through the week," a meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan., wrote in Tuesday's Area Forecast Discussion, adding that low chances of about 10 to 30 percent each day for isolated storms will persist through much of the work week, with an overall low severe risk.
Weak storms possible, severe threat stays low
Forecasters say Wednesday will look much like Tuesday, with low probabilities of an isolated afternoon storm firing on leftover boundaries. Most convection is expected in the mountains and along the Front Range, drifting slowly east across the eastern Colorado plains through the evening and weakening before it reaches the Colorado-Kansas line.
By Friday, southwest flow and returning low-level moisture should push dew points back into the lower 60s, with a modest bump in deep-layer shear. That may bring a slight increase in the wind and hail risk, though weak forcing is expected to keep storm coverage limited. No watches, warnings or advisories were in effect for the Colorado portion of the Goodland forecast area as of Tuesday afternoon, and no Red Flag Warning covered Cheyenne County.
