Flood watch issued for Prowers County as rain soaks Lamar area
A Flood Watch takes effect for the Lamar area Tuesday morning as a multi-day rain event moves into Prowers County behind a warm and breezy Monday, the National Weather Service said.
Monday will be partly sunny and breezy, with a high near 81 degrees and south-southeast winds of 15 to 25 mph. Showers and thunderstorms become likely overnight, with a low around 61 degrees and continued breezy conditions.
“Widespread precipitation spreads across all of south central and southeast Colorado Monday night through at least Thursday, with periods of heavy rain and possible flooding,” a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Sunday’s Area Forecast Discussion.
Flood Watch in effect Tuesday into Wednesday
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Lamar area from 6 a.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday, as widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring locally heavy rainfall to Prowers County. Forecasters said the exact placement of the heaviest rain remains uncertain, but models point to as much as 1 to 3 inches of rain across southeast Colorado’s southern tier through Thursday, with the potential for rapid runoff in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
