Governor Polis appoints two judges to the 23rd Judicial District
Colorado Governor Jared Polis has appointed Beth A. Elliott-Dumler to the 23rd Judicial District Court and W. Casey Brown to the Douglas County Court in the same district, the Governor's Office announced.
Elliott-Dumler will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Ben L. Leutwyler III, with the appointment effective June 1, 2026. Brown will fill a new judgeship created under Senate Bill 25-024, with the appointment effective July 1, 2026.
Beth A. Elliott-Dumler
Elliott-Dumler has served as a Magistrate in the 18th Judicial District since 2003, with a docket consisting of juvenile and domestic matters. She previously served as a Family Court Facilitator in the 18th Judicial District from 2003 to 2006; as an Assistant Attorney General in the Appellate Section of the Colorado Attorney General's Office from 1998 to 2000; and as an associate at Thomas C. Helgeson, P.C., from 1996 to 2003.
She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1990 and her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1995.
W. Casey Brown
Brown has served as a Magistrate in the 18th Judicial District since 2024, with a docket consisting of criminal matters. He previously served as a Senior Assistant County Attorney in 2024 and as an Assistant County Attorney from 2022 to 2023 in Douglas County; as a Senior Deputy District Attorney from 2021 to 2022 and as a Deputy District Attorney from 2016 to 2021 in the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office; and as an associate attorney at Nemirow Perez, P.C., from 2015 to 2016.
He earned his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 2009 and his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2015.
Colorado’s 23rd Judicial District includes Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln counties.
