Lamar is in for a warm, rain-free holiday weekend, with a high near 82 on Friday and the mid-80s on Saturday before a cold front briefly cools Sunday into the low 70s. By early next week, the National Weather Service in Pueblo expects highs near 90 to return to Prowers County under sunny skies.

Friday is sunny with north winds of 10 to 15 mph gusting to around 20 and a high near 82. Skies stay mostly clear Friday night as the low slips to about 42, with winds turning to the south-southwest after midnight.

“Max temps today well above average again under the ridge, with 70s/80s widespread at lower elevations,” Eric Petersen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Pueblo, wrote in the Area Forecast Discussion.

A brief cooldown, then back to the 90s

Saturday warms to a high near 86 under full sun, with skies turning cloudy overnight ahead of a passing cold front. Sunday is mostly sunny but noticeably cooler, with a high near 72. The reprieve is short: highs climb back to near 90 on both Monday and Tuesday as the ridge rebuilds over southeast Colorado.
