15 Years Ago - July 9, 2010

  • USDA Update- Rod Johnson: Yields across the county are above average and most of the test weights are above 60 pounds.
  • Kit Carson Clips- Marilyn White: The kids won out and I took them to Cheyenne Wells swimming pool. They really enjoyed that since the temperature was 100+.

25 Years Ago - July 14, 2000

  • Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: A train set a fire on the right-of-way for a mile along Mary’s place. It didn’t do us a lot of harm as our grass is pretty short along the fence. Burned some on the boards at the cattle guard and scared some people pretty good.
  • Nursing Home News- June Wilcox: We got a grow light for our cell-gro garden. This system is very nice as it is mobile and can be moved from room to room and everyone can enjoy.

40 Years Ago - July 12, 1985

  • “Marty’s Outdoors” a new bait and tackle shop opened for business in Eads. It is owned and operated by Mary Miller.
  • Towner Tales- Cheri Hopkins: A wheat stubble field caught on fire south of Towner from a spark of a combine bearing. Fortunately, no wheat was destroyed or anyone injured. About 6-10 acres of stubble burned and was put out before fire equipment from Sheridan Lake arrived.

50 Years Ago - July 11, 1975

  • In an effort to raise revenue for a new fire truck, the Eads Board of Trustees increased the minimum rate for water and garbage pickup.
  • Due to the increase of operational cost, the Kiowa County Hospital District Board approved a $3 increase in room rates per day.

100 Years Ago - 1925

  • Robert Uhland added a new porch to his residence and installed a Delico lighting system. J.F. Matthew was in charge of the installation.
