- Sharon Frazee, outstanding caterer, served a fabulous “Taste of France” Valentine supper by candlelight at the Eads Senior Citizen Center.
- Jeannie Strong, who has been paralyzed for the past 20 years., received a very big valentine. It was a sip and puff electric wheel chair donated by a very generous person or persons.
25 Years Ago - February 23, 2001
- The National Park Service, in conjunction with the Kiowa County Commissioners and Kiowa County Economic Development office, will hold an open house to share information on the newly authorized Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site.
40 Years Ago - February 24, 1986
- The Eads Board of Trustees adopted Ordinance No. 232 calling for a two percent sales tax in the town of Eads. This will be on the April ballot.
- An organizational meeting was held to explore the possibility of marking the 100th birthday of Lincoln, Cheyenne, and Kiowa counties. The event would be in 1989 since all three counties were formed in 1889.
50 Years Ago - February 20, 1976
- A successful wildcat oil well 10 miles northwest of Kit Carson is fueling a mild case of oil fever that has spilled into neighboring Lincoln and Kiowa counties.
- State conservationists said 211,990 acres of land already damaged by wind erosion and additional 1.5 million acres are in condition to blow. Southeast Colorado is a virtual powder keg as the most damaged land is in this part of the state.
75 Years Ago - February 16, 1951
- About 468 miles of REA power lines in Kowa County are to be constructed. In Towner and Western Kansas, Wheatland Electric Cooperative is about ready to energize certain lines.
