Eads heads for triple-digit heat Monday after sunny weekend in the low 90s
Sunny skies and steadily building heat are on tap for Eads over the coming days, with highs near 92 degrees Friday and Saturday climbing to 97 Sunday before topping out at 102 Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Friday brings sunny skies and a high near 92, along with a breezy north wind of 15 to 20 mph behind a cold front that dropped through the plains early in the morning. Friday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 60 as northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph become light and variable after midnight.
"Drier and hotter for the weekend into Monday, with temperatures on the Plains near or in excess of 100 degrees," a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Friday's Area Forecast Discussion. Forecasters noted that Monday looks to be the warmest day and that "heat highlights may be needed for parts of the area."
Heat peaks Monday as ridge builds over Colorado
An upper-level ridge of high pressure stretching across Colorado will send temperatures climbing through the weekend, with drier air spreading over the plains. Monday is forecast to be the hottest day of the stretch in Eads, with a high near 102 and breezy south-southeast winds of 15 to 20 mph gusting as high as 30 mph.
No fire weather watches or warnings were in effect for Kiowa County as of Friday morning, though the combination of triple-digit heat, low humidity, and gusty winds early next week could elevate fire danger across the eastern plains. A flash flood watch issued by the Pueblo office Friday covers mountain burn scar areas well west of Kiowa County.
