Lamar and Prowers County will see unseasonably warm weather through Friday, with a high near 85 degrees on Thursday, before a windy Friday and a cold front that brings showers and cooler air Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Wednesday brings sunshine and a high near 79, with a light west wind turning east in the afternoon. Wednesday night is partly cloudy with a low near 53.

Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny and breezy, with south winds increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon and gusts as high as 30 mph. Friday is windy, with a high near 81, south winds of 25 to 30 mph and gusts as high as 50 mph.

Dry and warm, with a stormier weekend ahead

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Tuesday's Area Forecast Discussion that conditions across the plains should remain generally warm and dry through the work week, with cooler, more unsettled weather arriving for the weekend and into early next week.

The discussion said a front is expected to cross the plains Saturday as additional energy moves slowly across the region through Monday. The heaviest rain from the current Pacific storm is expected in the San Juan Mountains, where a Flood Watch is in effect, but the watch does not include Prowers County.

No Red Flag Warning is listed for Lamar as of Tuesday afternoon. Still, the combination of warm temperatures and strong, gusty winds Thursday and Friday can raise the risk of grass fires spreading quickly, and residents should use caution with any outdoor burning.
